World of Goo and Henry Hatsworth devs form new studio
Posted on | March 11, 2010 | No Comments

Former devs responsible for the sublime World of Goo and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure have banded together to create a new indie game studio: Tomorrow Corporation.
Jokingly referring to themselves as ‘indie sellouts’ on their website, Kyle Gabler, Allan Blomquist and Kyle Gray have built up quite the resumé between them. Collectively having a hand in developing the aforementioned World of Goo and Henry Hatsworth, as well as co-founding the Experimental Game Project and indie studio 2D Boy.
Currently, no games have been announced – but with guys like these involved, we best expect great things from Tomorrow Corporation.

Sony Santa Monica working on not one but two new projects
Posted on | March 11, 2010 | No Comments

Earlier this week, when asked what God of War III developer Sony Santa Monica’s new project would be, senior producer Steve Caterson said he had “no idea” and that such a decision should not be “made flippantly”. It looks like four days is time enough for the developer to come up with future plans then, as the studio’s director of product development John Hight has now said that they’re going right back to work with not one but two new projects.
One of these projects is described as a “short term” affair with a smaller team, but no release timeline was given. The other project is a bigger one similar in size and scope to their previous efforts, but that’s all that’s currently known to Sony Santa Monica outsiders. Which apparently includes Steve Caterson.

Activision doesn’t ‘just churn sh*t out,’ says Blur dev
Posted on | March 11, 2010 | No Comments

A whole bunch has been going on with Activision as of late, what with the sackings of Infinity Ward’s head honchos and the subsequent flurry of finger pointing and name calling. One thing that may have slipped the general public’s mind in this whole debacle is that Activision is in the business of selling games but, according to one developer, does not just slide anything onto store shelves.
“You hear a lot of horror stories about Activision being this publisher that just churns shit out, but they certainly weren’t like that for us,” said Gareth Wilson, Bizarre Creations co-lead designer on Blur. “They were great. Really, really good.”
Wilson says that they were having to make a lot of compromises on the look and feel of Blur in order to make their given release date. The developer wanted to “expand on the mods, improve the visuals, get the splitscreen stuff looking really good, make the power-ups ace… and we just weren’t there. We went to Activision and said: ‘We don’t think the game’s up to our quality level.’ It was totally shippable – it was OK – but we would’ve like to have had more time. They went, ‘OK’… which was great.”

Ubisoft dates R.U.S.E.
Posted on | March 11, 2010 | No Comments

Ubisoft’s deceptive real-time strategy title R.U.S.E. has been scheduled for an early June release, the company has announced. Or has it?
Yup, I’m pretty sure it has actually. The “one-of-a-kind real-time strategy game that allows players to bluff their enemies to lead their nation to victory” is heading to North America on June 8 and the UK on June 4, it’s being reported all over.
Those looking put their bluffing skills to the test ahead of the release can give the public beta a go — developer Eugen kicked it off just yesterday.
